welcome to the pulse!

how is everyone? welcome to this month’s volume of the pulse, your go-to roundup of everything in the world of furniture, design, local boise tidbits & more. from new arrivals, to recipes to fonts - you’ll find it all here! i wanted to send a thought of gratitude for opening & loving my monthly blog. i know inboxes are overflowing these days & i truly appreciate you making space for the pulse in yours.

let's talk about that pasta image in the header! alright, you all know how much i loved juniper & shared that they were closing a few volumes back. well, i finally got the courage to try the newest concept from STLG: rustica . (where juniper used to be) it’s beautiful, they left the old wood bar, and the pizza oven. we tried the burrata app (yum!) and i ordered the grande meatball! haha! yep there’s a huge meatball in there! it was great, and i can’t wait to try some of the pizzas!

warm drank? in my european travels - the warm drank signs always make me giggle. especially this hot chocolate milk to go! who can say no? in honor of fall, and european warm dranks here are three lovely recipes to kick this season off.

couldn’t end this volume without a food review! i was lucky enough to spend a weekend in Crouch enjoying starlight theater and the great outdoors before the smoke heavily dropped in. this food review is for literally the BEST PIZZA i’ve ever had. and that’s HUGE! you can find the SHAME COMBO - at, you guessed it, the Dirty Shame Restaurant & Saloon . what a beautiful weekend and amazing food!

district champs & on to state!

you guys!!! we had a hot weekend in burley last weekend and our TRIBE took districts! we begin state games tomorrow night & hopefully in the championship game on saturday!

in other news, my sister had her 3rd little baby last night! i am grateful to have my 4th precious nephew! no name revealed yet! my guess is Nicholas Jeffrey. such wonderful things going on in my world this summer!

i hope you are all doing well & staying cool this summer! in this PULSE i am excited to share NEW products with you, home projects, our newest staff member & SO much more! grab your wine, your water or your kombucha & let’s hang out.

have you guys ever started a “small” home project… & then realized it wasn’t small… & was going to consume 5 days of your life.

well, ta-da. peep the gif of my “closet” extra bedroom. went from boring white, to the most gorgeous dark tealish blue. the paint is valspar from lowes in Mariana Trench. i finally framed the water color paints from belgium and yep! that chair on the playlist image is my chair in the new photo! totally available to buy at MHF! but in turn, it was new curtain rods, curtains, bedding ETC. i love the new look tho! so peaceful.

welcome to the PULSE. we have a lot of new subscribers so it is time to re-introduce myself & this publication. my name is LeeAnn & if you've seen me in the showroom, you know i'm the one that wears the hats! i'd like to personally welcome you to MHF's PULSE blog written by moi.

i'm a mom of 2 little dudes (both taller than me) & i live in the north end of boise. 5 things i love: new restaurants, fonts, furniture, design, boise state football & MUCH more.

the PULSE is our space to hang out together. i'll be sharing markdowns, collections fresh to the floor, recipes, free fonts, design tips, trendy new eateries, travel tips & such.

where does your little one want to go today? from magical games to retreats with soft toy friends, our in-stock youth furniture will ensure their imagination can take off. *and also help build the best forts!* if you see a bed your little one will love, call & purchase over the phone!

it's the season of gift giving; whether it be for a hosted dinner party, or actual holiday parties. it's easy to fall into the trap of buying lavish, impractical items that people won't end up using. there's something to be said for prioritizing function while you're shopping. you can't beat giving someone presents that bring joy to their day-to-day life.

hello my friends! i am writing this pulse right during the broncos niners game. �� go broncos! how is september for all of you? mine is busy as always & i'm sure you can relate! i ended up taking the trip to see my sister in SF over Labor Day weekend & it was a beautiful time. an andrew mcmahon concert, lots of yummy food & playing with my little nephew, bentley. the day after i left, she had the new baby! a little boy named henry. (missed him by less than 24 hrs!)

i can't believe this is the 20th volume of the PULSE! thank you all for joining me on this journey. it is the most fun bit of "work" i get to put together every month. AS ALWAYS if you have any feedback or feature ideas, let me know here !

i thought about copying a reading list i found online & then i was like - why don't i actually talk about some of my personal favs on my shelf! this is a wide mix of some of my favs i hope to re-read soon!

margaret atwood - the heart goes last did you know there was more to margaret atwood than handmaids tale? well i read this book years ago before i had even heard of handmaids or red capes. this book does take place in a dystopia all the same. after being homeless & living in their car, the lead couple moves into a "promising new neighborhood" but there is a sinister undertone that unfolds quickly. ps. they are in production to make this into a movie (if you like to be in the know of books becoming movies!) ☆☆☆☆

caroline kepnes - YOU okay, raise of hands if you have seen the show *everyone raises hands.* honestly, i am bored & didnt even finish the 3rd season. THE BOOK THO. it's so much better. more details, more character development. i promise you it's worth it. quick read....creepy outcome. perfect for october! ☆☆☆☆

mira t. lee - everything here is beautiful if you have a sister or are a mom to two little girls, this book is for you. it's a little bit about how mental health effects a family unit, and it is a beautiful story. sadness, love, hard choices & family all wrapped into one. ☆☆☆

simon garfield - just my type guys. you know i'm the self proclaimed font queen...& this book made me cry. seriously there is a whole section about the IKEA logo/font choices width etc...and i was in tears. fonts get me in the feels! if you have ever been curious about all those fonts in the drop down for your MS WORD program...this is the book for you. ☆☆☆☆☆

raffi cavoukian - the life of a children's troubadour raffi. my childhood was spent growing up with raffi. anyone else? baby beluga, down by the bay, and & something in my shoe. this book is his life story which i found so interesting. his songs filled my home growing up & i still listen to his christmas cd every year. in the book, we learn about his childhood, and who he is now as an adult. if you want a book full of nostalgia & feel good life advice raffi is for you. ☆☆☆☆☆

it's fall season, which to me means lots of dinner parties, gatherings & events. well, twists aren't just for cocktail garnishes! here are a few of my favorite hosting whimsy ideas...

i hope you have all enjoyed a beautiful august. final summer trips, school starting & preparing to celebrate the end of summer with labor day weekend upcoming. carson and i had a fantastic trip to seattle. we stayed in an airbnb in fremont and took boat cruises from lake union to pier 54 & walked to t-mobile park. the mariner's lost the first game we went to but won the second! we had some amazing food & walked for miles! i love traveling with this little guy.

today in the pulse, we talk about 5 of the best bedside tables, MARKDOWNS, what's streaming, focus of curves, restaurant visit reviews, and a funky playlist to go along with everything.

i know i'm late to the party on this one, but i finally got over to naked fins!
the ambiance is super chill in here. they have fantastic outdoor seating (which will be great when it's not 100* out.) we tried the: 208 roll - salmon ahi, crab, cucumber, jalapeño, tobiko with a mango-habanero sauce. slammin' salmon roll - spicy salmon, cucumber & toasted garlic topped with salmon, cilantro, sesame seeds & Fins' teriyaki/sriracha sauce.

bedside tables are a key anchor point to any bedroom. they keep your items within close reach from lamps, to phones to alarm clocks. (books, too!) to keep all of your essentials nearby, it's important to pick a nightstand that is the correct size & style. here are a few of my favs available to order in at MHF.

hello my friends! wow another month has zipped right along. i hope you all had a fantastic july. our boys took 2nd & 1st in each of their baseball leagues! other than that, my littlest brother got engaged, so planning all sorts of showers & parties as i have been asked to be maid of honor. ♡ i fly to walnut creek to visit my sister this weekend, and next thursday i fly out with carson to seattle to catch some M's games.

Tomato Plants. let's talk about them for a minute. for the first time ever, i threw a few tomato starters in a planter - AND THEN WE GOT THAT JUNE SNOW - so i thought they were goners. low & behold - i have tomatoes growing! (small victories!) so, even tho i haven't had a bountiful harvest yet, here are a few tomato inspired recipes i've been waiting to try!

well we made it through june & there is actually a PULSE for this month! (unlike 2021 when june flew passed me & i missed a PULSE volume!) as always we are wrapped up in baseball 4 nights a week & undefeated thus far! we got the pool up in the backyard, leave to McCall for 4th of july weekend - so just like all of you, i'm going a million miles an hour with a million things to do!

what is better than small town baseball?
and yep! that score says 39-3. we finished an undefeated season & took 1st in the tournament.

without sounding TOO cliche, how is everyone's year starting? are you feeling refreshed & setting new goals? for me, my year reset feels like it starts with the boys' school year NOT at the actual new year. things coming up on my radar...a trip to PORTUGAL in march! to say i'm excited would be a massive understatement. if anyone has been to LISBON or PORTO i would LOVE to hear from you!!!

wow, my friends. i can't believe this is the 11th (how did i miss a month somewhere?! it had to be june & baseball season. haha) volume of my little project: THE PULSE. thank you for being on this journey with me; i've had the best time! my role at MHF has grown & now work in the Showroom 2 days a week! i can't wait to meet you all!

so, i know we all feel this way, but can you believe that christmas is this week? EEEEE. my boys (13 & 11) wanted Jordan 1's, "cool sneaker storage," a ukulele, HOODIES, and tons of sports stuff. but im feeling ready! feeling good...and this email is putting me in a festive spirit. in this volume of THE PULSE, we are doing all things christmas! starting, OF COURSE, with a christmas playlist, new christmas recipes, YEAR END CLEARANCE EVENT , and more!

hello my friends! my first PULSE that doesn't start with a niece update! life in the north end feels beautifully fall toned. i am getting ready to host my first ever thanksgiving and then taking off for a week to Tempe. THE CEVICHE WAS MY FAVORITE!!!!

okay YOU GUYS! happy PUMPKIN SPICE SEASON! crisp morning, pumpkins, halloween decor, cozy evenings, and all the fall things!

first things first - since you have been on the baby shower train with me - i have to share how successful last weekend was! it felt great to be back in pullman - and the shower was beautiful. here are some photos!! (i'm in the beige dress on the right!)

volume 8 is a bop! we have a mellow cozy fall playlist, perfect get-a-way airbnbs , top trending tables, the coziest throw blankets we carry, a MUST-WATCH list and MUCH more! grab your coffee (mimosas are also accepted) and lets spend some time together.

speaking of fall & music...who has been to Green Acre s ? (hopefully all of you raised your hands because it is a fantastic place.) a special little spot on the river, full of food trucks, yard games, and usually live music. Happy Hour from 2-5pm every day!

it always seems like fall is the time to catch up or enjoy some new shows. but in reality with little dude football, BSU football season tickets & life in general - TV time for me is always minimal! good thing i have an amazingly cozy sectional from MHF when i do get some downtime. according to the pros, these are the MUST WATCH shows this fall:

1) 'Maid' (Netflix, October 1) Shameless alums Molly Smith Metzler and John Wells reunite to adapt Stephanie Land’s bestselling memoir about cleaning houses after finding herself broke and homeless.

2) 'Colin in Black & White' (Netflix, October 29) Former quarterback Colin Kaepernick, finds a very public second act as co-creator — with Ava DuVernay — narrator, and inspiration for this drama about his teenage years (where he’s played by Jaden Michael).

3) 'Scenes From a Marriage' (HBO, September 12) An actual adaptation, courtesy of Israeli TV writer Hagai Levi (In Treatment; The Affair), and featuring former A Most Violent Year co-stars Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac as the couple who have to come to terms with the end of their relationship.

if you guys have learned one thing from me over the past 7 months, i LOVE ROOFTOP gatherings. well, if you have driven in downtown boise lately, maybe you've noticed the ROOFTOP BAR signage on the Residence Inn Boise Downtown. would 100% recommend bopping up the elevator to the 3rd floor to check out " The Deck. "

i was blown away with how fresh & original the cocktails sounded. i opted for the hibiscus mule & it was refreshing! there is also an extensive list of red & white wines, also tons of beer options! welp, if you are looking for the next place to get a charcuterie board, you know i'm the one to ask! this was an exceptional offering. pickled carrots ! olives, tomatoes, pears, 4 cheeses & 3 meats! jalapeño honey brings it all together! enjoy! TONS of seating options. high tables, low tables, couches & more. there are two wonderful fireplaces to sit in front of in the fall. it's comfortable for families with kiddos as well!

current obsession - i'm calling it PINK of '21 . do you guys ever get COMPLETELY consumed in something for like a week? when i got home from seattle it was like SOFT DUSTY PINK had taken over my life. i even did one of those " fill up empty/cleaned egg shells with paint and throw them at a canvas " to further explore my new love for this color palette.

2) twisted brewer y says "we host a one-hour vinyasa practice in this cool location that brings a smile to everyone's face & a piece of zen in their body. brunch awaits us after, you get a coupon for a pint to go with the "made in-house" delicious food. the patio is open as we can sit out in the sun and enjoy a beautiful morning. $20 gets ya yoga, a pint (kombucha or mimosa bar as well).

3) at crooked fence brewing it's a weekly, double elimination, beer league cornhole tournament. sign your team up by 6:30p on thursday. timed 15 minute games start at 6:45pm. bring your friends!! play for fun!! play for bragging rights!! they also have a food truck onsite. i don't know about you, but i am the champ of my back yard & i definitely need to check this out.
